What type of computer would one need to work with the ALMA data? Can you specify what RAM size and CPU power is needed as a user working with ALMA data?

Users who are interested in purchasing a computer (or cluster) to process and analyze ALMA data should consult the following page, which gives recommendations for RAM, CPU speed, and disk storage space:

http://casa.nrao.edu/casa_hardware-requirements.shtml

This page is updated on roughly an annual basis.

Note the hardware recommendations are the same for ALMA and the VLA.

For the ALMA Pipeline, more specific information can be found in Sections "Rerun Pipeline manually using casa_pipescript.py directly" and "For pipeline imaged deliveries" of ALMA Pipeline User's Guide available in the ALMA Science Portal "Documentation" page.
